Oxford's win over Charlton is a blueprint for success against top half teams

Oxford's victory over Charlton was a momentous day for all the 8 thousand plus fans who attended an unlimited capacity game at the Kassam for the first time since February 2020.   Regardless of the result, it would have been an occasion to remember, but the Us put in a performance worthy of the wait, and in doing so Robinson may have stumbled upon the blueprint for success against the top sides in this division.  United's struggles against the top teams in League One last term was well documented.   They picked up a meagre two victories over top ten sides last term, both within the final quarter of the season, and their return of 13 points from a possible 54 was too steep a hurdle to overcome for promotion. With Oxford looking to go one further than the playoff finish they achieved last season, improving on these results is going to be crucial, and it is a point which is amplified by the strength of the division this time round.  Freshly relegated Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham

Steve Seddon could be an upgrade for Oxford

The sale of Josh Ruffels was a devastating blow for Oxford ahead of what they hoped would be a promotion chasing season.  On the evidence of Saturday's curtain raiser against Cambridge, however, United fans needn't be concerned.  Steve Seddon's debut had far more to it than his 42nd minute opener, and he could justifiably stake a claim of being Oxford's best player on the day, consistently driving down the left hand side and providing quality delivery into the box.  Ruffels' eight years at the club were personified by defensive consistency and a knack of coming up with big goals. Whether Seddon has the ability to play at such a level for a whole season and beyond is yet to be seen, but he showed enough attacking intent to suggest he could provide more balance to this Oxford side.  Whilst Ruffels was adept at arriving late into the box and providing a genuine goal scoring outlet, he very rarely overlapped around the outside, and his crossing was never his strongest a

What should Oxford's Away Kit look like?

Oxford fans could have been forgiven for thinking there may not be an away kit this season, or at best the first they see of it would be at Cambridge on opening day.   The thought of Oxford wearing bibs against Cambridge's golden attire was quickly becoming too close for compfort, before the details of their away kit release were finally circulated.  The kit will become available on Friday 6 th  August at 10am on… TikTok. For the time being, though, Oxford are currently one of only five teams in England’s top four divisions not to have released both a home and away kit for the 2021-22 season. Joining Oxford are League One rivals Portsmouth, as well as Tranmere and Derby, the latter perhaps will turn out in bibs if it can save a little cash. Hats off, too, to Exeter, who have neglected even the home kit so far. Ahead of the away kit release, then, we dig through Oxford’s recent kit history, to see what style and colour has proved most successful over the years, and what Unit
